Studying War

The wars were a riot. They also had lessons to teach. Our tribe got to be the Anti Nephi Lehi group in one of the wars. They all ran to get their swords and shields. President Eckman reminded them that they had made a covenant not to use their weapons and made them return their weapons to the bins. They suddenly realized that they were going to be killed. The whole group joined hands, walked to meet the Lamanites and sang. It was effective.

Swords joined together in victory
There was also a war involving the 2000 stripling warriors. All the 14 and 15 year old boys were taken and given their instructions. They could be hit 30 times and even then they did not die. They could take a knee and still swing a sword. The wars were very exciting. The chief judges (Stake Presidency and Bishop Anderson) would incite great fervor in their groups. After the stripling warrior war, all the young men put their swords together.

See the flour bombs a flyin' . Chelsea Marsden and Hayden covered with the rain of war
There was a flour war....enough said. I was drumming for that war and still got clobbered a few times. In the wars, you were supposed to keep track of how many times you were hit and 'die' when that number was reached. In the flour war, I think only the Stake Presidency was counting hits or they were the prime targets, because they were the only four people I saw prostrate on the battle field.

The final battle commences. The word awesome doesn't quite describe the feeling as they charged down the hill.
The final battle was emotional also. There was President Eckman's nation at the bottom of a hill. They were the Nephites. I was drumming then also. We could hear the three other nations being readied for battle. They were cheering and beating their swords on their shields. Then over the top of the hill they ran. It was all over in a few minutes. We watched Mormon and his remaining men fight. We watched Mormon instruct his son Moroni to preserve the records. The entire camp watched reverently as he hid the records. No one spoke as we watched him walk out of sight. It was powerful.

The battles were really amazing. I think that the one that hit me the most was the final battle.
As we talked with our tribe, they wondered how the Lamanites who out numbered the Nephites by so much could just destroy them. We concluded that they were Past Feeling. We talked about how we can avoid loosing the spirit too.
I know the purpose of this Youth conference was met as I listened to the insights and testimonies of youth. Glad we got to share this with you and Steve. I hope you are feeling better.
