My Dates with Superman

June 1st. 1979. I woke up after a sleepness night. Sleepless, because it is hard to sleep with a head full of large barrel brush rollers and the sound of a tornado in the bed next to you. I spent my last night as a lonely single woman with my snoring Grandmother in the bed next to mine, and my final night of wearing rollers to bed. I hurried and made myself up as beautiful as I could and hurried to pick up Steve and get to the Salt Lake Temple. We were chaperoned by my future father in law. It's been thirty short years since that beautiful morning and I am sure I have forgotten many details, but these memories are bright. I felt like a queen, it was so special to be fussed over and 'arranged' by the sisters at the temple. Steve was (and is) the most handsome thing I've ever seen. I was surrounded by loved ones. The day was beautiful and sunny and the flowers were perfect. I just wanted to be in the arms of my sweetheart forever...oh yeah that was the point of the day! I know that there was much that I missed in the messages of that day. I believe Heavenly Father is lenient and lets little brides have their special day. He lets them be princesses. He lets them adore their sweethearts. He smiles on those precious days and knows that they will get the bigger picture at a future date. I feel so blessed to have started this adventure in the temple. The temple has been an important piece of our happiness.

I am still learning. I am still loving. My heart still flutters when I hear him walk in a room. He just keeps getting better and more 'super'. I still feel sad when he goes on camping trips or has to work late. I am spoiled by him constantly. He is superman. Being with him is the best gift ever. I can't believe that it has been thirty years, because I still feel like that wide eyed bride, but they have been the best thirty years of my life.

Beads Bestowed on Beloved

Steve received his beads on Saturday, March 21, 2009. We are so proud of him. Did I ever report what he did to earn them? First of all, He spent a week learning to be a better leader, father and person. Then He had to chose five goals (referred to as 'tickets' ). He organized a pressure rocket launch for the boys in our troop, organized the troop to help with the Special Needs Troop in presenting a flag ceremony, helped at he Big Event, built a camp kitchen and built a 'knotty' board for the scouts. I probably already mentioned these things... but I am so awed by all the things he does. The ceremony was fun. Alaina came and sat by me and declared, "That's my Popie up there." Thanks for all your support!

Bobwhite Beading Beckoning

What am I talking about??? Steve attended a Wood Badge course offered by the Boy Scouts of America, in the summer of 2007. During the week long course, he learned many things about leadership and self improvement. After the course, he had to fulfil 5 goals known as tickets within 18 months of taking the course. He was part of the Bobwhite patrol. He was a little disappointed at first thinking it might be more fun to be an animal of fiercer proportions. To his great joy and happiness, his patrol was the best there. Everyone worked together so well, taking the championship of all the games played. Everyone in his patrol 'worked their tickets'. Steve worked very hard and served the troop in our ward along the way. He organized a pressurized rocket contest, help the Special Needs troop with a flag ceremony for their production, helped with The Big Event, built a state of the art 'Troop 219 Camp Kitchen (See photos) and a Deluxe Knot Board for the scouts to practice their knotty abilities. (See photos again)
He will be 'beaded' very soon. We hope during the month of March. We will post the anticipated date and times as soon as we have a firm confirmation. I am so proud of my little Boy Scout! Did you know that Superman was a Boy Scout!
