Hulse Family Ice Cream
Scald 3 cups milk
Add 2 cups sugar mixed with two Tablespoons cornstarch, half cup of cocoa, half teaspoon salt . (Omit cocoa for vanilla based flavors.)
Cook 15 minutes or until it boils, stirring constantly. Beat 4 eggs well and add 1 c. Milk. Add hot milk mix to eggs and milk mixture a little at a time. (Prevents eggs from curdling) Add about 2 cups. Cook altogether for three minutes more. Add 1TB. And 1 quart whipping cream. Chill. Add to freezer. Add more milk to within 4 inches of top. We added chopped cherries.
My favorite flavor at this juncture of my life is to delete the cocoa and stir in raspberry purée at freezing time. I love this with homemade hot fudge sauce. See Barbara’s frozen banana split.
